Our Story
Bee Lite was founded in the beautiful island nation of Sri Lanka with a clear mission: to help charities, non-profit organisations and purpose-led businesses design, develop and maintain high-quality websites without breaking the bank.
Our aim is not simply to build websites, but to make digital expertise more accessible to organisations working to make a positive difference.
Why we began
We believe it should be different.
We recognised that many UK organisations doing remarkable work — particularly those in their early stages or facing barriers to growth — are often discouraged from improving their digital presence because of the cost. Too often, technical jargon and unnecessary complexity leave them feeling overwhelmed rather than supported.
Rooted in shared values and best practices, Bee Lite brings together diverse cultures, perspectives and skill sets. We combine technical expertise with an understanding of the financial and operational challenges purpose-led organisations face.

02Our beginnings

Bee Lite began as a collaborative vision inspired by AIT and Fat Beehive. What started as an initiative to help organisations with limited budgets access quality design, development and support has grown into an independent organisation operating across the UK and Sri Lanka.
Our original goal was to draw on AIT's office facilities and resources to support Fat Beehive in serving charities, non-profit organisations and socially responsible businesses. We wanted to help them overcome financial barriers and make high-quality digital design and development more accessible.

As Bee Lite evolved, so did our understanding of the importance of strong governance, mutual trust and ethical collaboration. Like many growing organisations, we have faced our share of challenges. Difficult experiences involving trust, collaboration and governance tested our resolve and reinforced the importance of remaining true to our principles.
Challenges may shape an organisation, but they do not have to define its future.
These words reflect the perspective we carry forward. Where our expectations of ethical conduct and professional collaboration have not been met, we have taken steps to protect the organisation and its mission, including ending working relationships where necessary.
We remain committed to learning from our experiences, strengthening our practices and ensuring our work reflects the values on which Bee Lite was founded.
